Why Pet Portraits are so important to me:

This is my dog, Chelsea. She was meant to be my girl -- I knew it the moment we met when I was working on the medical team at our local animal shelter. She came in as a very nervous stray who took awhile to get comfortable around people - but she chose me as her person. After a whole package of hotdogs, that is. She gave me hugs every morning when I came to the shelter, during a very difficult time in my life -- pressing her big ol' head against my cheek as if to say "its gonna be okay, i'm here."

Bringing her home was the easiest decision ever. It was an honor to see her grow to trust more and more, as we slowly worked together -- taking baby steps with new experiences and new people. She was the sweetest, most gentle soul and I swear she could read my mind. She was so empathetic.

She started having medical issues.. And after years of trying every different medicine, running every test, and seeing eight different doctors and specialists, we had to say goodbye to the sweetest girl who ever was.

Pets are so special, in so many ways. Sometimes it seems like they understand us in ways that people just can't. Our pets have quirks, colorful personalities, and are hilarious and emotional creatures. I am so excited to meet your pets, and to cater to their needs -- whatever they may be -- so they can have a comfortable and stress-free photo shoot. Because I would have wanted the same for my Chelsea girl.

Where did the name "Blue Room Photo" come from?

I lost my grandma at the end of 2021. She was my role model and my friend. She encouraged me to dream big, to create, to be goofy and to be kind. The Blue Room was where I would sleep at grandma's house when I was a kid. The room got its name from the light-blue shag carpet on the floor that had been there since the 70s. I remember the patterns on the quilts that laid on the two twin beds, and the little stack of our favorite bedtime books that we read over and over again but never grew tired of. â€‹

A day at grandma's was a day of creating, pretending, and learning new things. Watercolor painting, making our own newspapers, playing dress-up, picking up sticks, walking on the railroad tracks, gathering wild raspberries, watching hummingbirds flutter by the window...

Grandma would always have an apple or two in her purse for when we got hungry - she'd peel the skin off the apple, usually in one perfect spiral. Like some kind of magic trick.

Grandma taught me to find the beauty in the simplest of things -- like apple peels. To make art out of the most unlikely objects, like fallen leaves. To turn chores into games. To find the fun in a rainy day, by playing in the puddles.

Starting the day in The Blue Room meant that magic was on the horizon.

I can't wait to share the Blue Room Magic with you. â€‹
